Lake George finally froze over this past Sunday. We laced up the ice skates for the first time in over two years and ventured out to investigate.
Most of the ice fisherman were reporting anywhere between 4-6 inches of ice. The weird parents who wear jeans and no hat while dragging their frozen kids behind them had no idea how thick the ice was. If you're thinking of heading out on the ice you should really read The Lake George Association's publication on "Ice Safety Tips." It's worth the time.
The hardened layer of snow on top of the ice made skating a little difficult. No worries though. The perfect ice should return this weekend after the expected warm weather and rain followed by freezing temperatures.
